Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) got her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine as a teenager. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (News Editor), Nerdbot (as Editor-In-Chief), and now [Bad]Influencers, where she is Editor-in-Chief. Over the past 15 years, she’s built a well-known reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band. She also produces award-winning immersive events, including Wasteland Weekend and Neotropolis.

Hollywood is full of stories of people making one project so they could get another one greenlit. Sometimes, these are…shall we say poorly received things…paving the way for passion projects. Contractual obligations, yeah, and there are always those roles or jobs you have to take purely to survive. One of these is the case for two-time Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney (“The White Lotus,” “Euphoria”). She recently starred in Sony Pictures’ beleaguered Spider-Man adjacent “Madame Web,” which was universally panned by critics and audience members alike. Why would someone with a filmography (thus far) like Sweeney’s chose a project like this…

This has been one of those never-ending rumors pretty much since the advent of such sites as Twitter and Reddit. A reboot/revisit/revamp of the classic fantasty epic, “The Neverending Story.” Late author Michael Ende’s novel was adapted in 1984 by Wolfgang Peterson into the cult-classic film we know and love today. Last we heard, Disney was looking at some kind of project with the property, but no concrete news about it had been released since. Cut to this morning, and word that audiences will once again return to Fantastica (or Fantasia in the movies). Today’s news is that Michael Ende…

When HBO signed the deal for George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” universe originally, did they really imagine it would still be going almost 15 years later? True, we’re well into the spinoff territory now, but it’s kinda like “The Walking Dead,” shambling ever-forward with more stories to tell. “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” will return with it’s second season later this year. We’re apparently getting a trailer tomorrow, so HBO released a slew of 6 new character posters until then. The first season of “House of the Dragon” is currently streaming on…

The release of Dr. George Miller‘s next “Mad Max” film can’t come soon enough. I mean we’ll always wait for another chapter from the Wasteland, but, we’re just really excited for this one. Titled “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” it is a prequel of 2015’s absolutely incredible “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Telling the story of Imperator Furiosa (an Oscar worthy role originated by Charlize Theron), expect to see new locations and characters, but perhaps some familiar ones too. Anya Taylor-Joy was tapped to play the younger Furiosa, a move that both saddened and excited fans. We all kind of hoped for more Theron, but,…

We’ve been looking forward to this trailer for quite some time. Set during the High Republic of the galaxy far, far away, the next live-action “Star Wars” series coming to Disney+ later this year is “The Acolyte.” This is at least 100 years before the action in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. This poster that was released yesterday is perhaps one of the more chilling images from the franchise- a bloody lightsaber. Leslye Headland created the show, which stars Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith , Lee Jung-Jae, Charlie Barnett,  Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Dafne Keen, and Carrie-Anne Moss. As far as story goes, we know a former Padawan (Stenberg) will…

You know that thing every single year where almost everyone knows to avoid the dreaded date of April first to announce news or release something? Apparently LEGO missed that memo, as they’ve just announced their official Dungeons & Dragons collab will drop on April 1st. The fact that they had to make the marketing push include the words “no joke” maybe means delaying launch by a day or two would’ve been the better bet? We’ll finally get to see the sets in roughly 17 hours, so we’re excited for that. (This is not an official art release, but we can…

But, according to the brand’s official social medias, we’re getting….something….tomorrow. Chances are it’ll be a teaser, *possibly* a full trailer for “Star Wars: The Acolyte.” Set in the High Republic (at least 100 years before the action in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy), a former Padawan will reunite with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. Leslye Headland created the show, which stars Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith , Lee Jung-Jae,…

This just in- looks like James Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran are well and truly all-in with building a new universe of live-action films at the Warner Bros. house. After laying out a fairly large and complicated slate of projects, there is apparently one more in the works. A live-action adaptation of “Teen Titans.” This project will be written by Ana Nogueira, who is already at work on the script for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” That’s sort of all we know for now, but we’ll update you as further news gets released.
