“Power Rangers”: Film Casts Red Ranger

Looks like the Mighty Morphin’ team is getting closer and closer to being complete for the newest chapter in the franchise.  Yesterday, the official Twitter of  Power Rangers announced the casting of the newest Red Ranger for the upcoming film.

Every #PowerRangers squad needs a leader. Welcome Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger in the 2017 #PowerRangersMovie! pic.twitter.com/lnqWjhoUCP

Dacre Montgomery will be the new Red Ranger in the film, “leader of the squad”.  In a way, I think the film is being smart, casting newcomers to fill these iconic roles.  Montgomery will be joining already announced castmate Naomi Scott, who will be playing the Pink Ranger.

There is still some confusion as to which of the MANY series this new film directed by Dean Israelite will follow.  Reports have varied from pretty much following the original series from 1993, to the most recent version Dino Charge, to a complete revamping of the origins and stories we know.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.  Power Rangers morphs into theaters January 13th, 2017.
