Things have gone quiet since last year surrounding the new Power Rangers film.  But that changes today, as the official instagram for the reboot film announced another BIG character who we’ll see.

If you were a watcher of the original series, or a player of any of the video games, chances are you know who Rita Repulsa is.  She was the controller of the the various grey ninjas (Puddy) who would attack the rangers, and she would create and unleash the large monsters that would fight against the ranger’s zords (giant mechs).  It would appear that comedianne Elizabeth Banks will be filling that role.

Big news! @ElizabethBanks joins the cast of @PowerRangersMovie as the villainous #RitaRepulsa. Let the countdown to 2017 begin!

The film has previously announced their other casting choices (mostly young newcomers) via the same instagram account.  Check out this piece for all the updates and news you may have missed.

We should expect to see the film sometime in 2017.
