X-Men: Fox Live Action Series Moves Ahead

After kicking around development hell for the last year or so, the live action X-Men series is officially moving forward at Fox.  And by Fox we mean the network, not JUST the studio.

It seems like the apparent buzz of the upcoming 20th Century Fox owned-Marvel Comics property based show Legion was enough to propel the network to greenlight the entire thing.  Variety reported the news yesterday, as well as the announcement of who’s directing the pilot episode.

The yet unnamed X-Men series will reportedly focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive, Variety goes on to say.

Director/Producer Bryan Singer will be stepping in to direct the pilot episode, making fans of the X-Men film franchise excited.  On the flipside, those of us who really disliked almost all the live action films (because First Class was AWESOME) are more trepidatious than ever with this news.  He’s also currently working on a new film version of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for 20th Century Fox.

I will urge cautious optimism until we get a basic idea of who the show will center around.  With the basic description, we have to assume this X-Men series may be about a character we’ve already met (i.e. Jean Grey since the flashbacks we’ve seen in the films line up with the proposed plot). I would honestly hope it’s a character we HAVEN’T encountered yet in the films, possibly giving the series the freedom to build on a new story.

We will let you know as soon as new information about the project is released. Legion  is set for a February 8th 2017 premiere on the FX network.
