Wow, do WE feel old. This morning, Weird Al Yankovic posted something that made our jaws drop- that he first premiered parody classic “Another One Rides The Bus” on the famed Dr. Demento radio show 40 YEARS AGO TODAY.

That “passage of time” thing is pretty crazy, huh? I recorded this song live on the Dr. Demento Show exactly 40 YEARS AGO. pic.twitter.com/MdHcHoVfs6

“Another One Rides The Bus” was recorded live on September 14th, 1980 on the Dr. Demento Show, which was hosted by Barret “Dr. Demento” Hansen. Accompanying Yankovic was Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz, who would go on to be Yankovic’s long-time drummer.

We absolutely LOVE The AV Club’s fabulous writeup about the song, and how it really is Weird Al at his purest.

Please enjoy this video, which is the very first television appearance of Weird Al a year later in 1981, on The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder here.
