Warner Bros. Pictures Snaps Up Ownership Rights to RatPac Film Library

It had been expected that Vine Alternative Investments had a lock on a $290 million dollar bid to acquire the investment rights in the films contained in the RatPac-Dune Entertainment film library. Since that had been more than $40 million over the $250 opening bid for the rights, it was NOT expected that Warner Bros. Pictures would exercise their right to match any winning bid- but that seems to have been been their New Year’s surprise.

While as with most films, there are a number of production companies who own various percentages of the film’s rights, however with banner titles including Wonder Woman, Godzilla, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and more than 70 others, most of which are high-profile, it’s expected that RatPac’s ownership stake would amount to around $70 million per year over the next half-decade before their royalty rates begin to peter down. Future royalties include sources such as Netflix, physical media sales, and network broadcasts.

The library includes licensing rights to the following titles:

    300 Rise of an Empire
    A Winter’s Tale
    American Sniper
