Long-rumored to be in development (either as a film or live-action television series) it would appear that Warner Bros. is moving forward on a film based DC Comics Latino superhero Blue Beetle.

Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s Scarface, is penning the script according to a report from The Wrap.

The film will theoretically be based on the third version of the Blue Beetle (previous versions as published by Fox Comics, later by Charlton Comics, and eventually by DC Comics) is Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, who discovers the original Blue Beetle scarab, which morphs into a battle suit allowing him to fight crime and travel in space. Reyes eventually makes his way to Teen Titans as well.

This is pretty exciting and welcome news; the superhero landscape in the post Black Panther release era will hopefully begin to reflect a larger hue of multi-ethnic heroes across all the movie houses.

Who would YOU like to see play Reyes in a live-action film?

We’ll let you know when we hear more about this project.
