“Walking Dead” Spinoff: AMC Orders 2 Seasons

It seems like most of the cable/premium networks are getting into the habit of ordering more than one season of new shows before they even air.  The new The Walking Dead  spinoff series is the latest in the string of double orders.

“Cobalt”, as the still in production series is code-named, will have a first season consisting of six hour-long episodes.  The series will be set in Los Angeles, and AMC has released the first still photo from production.

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” said creator Robert Kirkman, also executive producer on the new series. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”

The series will star Cliff Curtis as divorced teacher Sean Cabrera, Kim Dickens as Nancy the guidance counselor who is the series’ female lead. Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey are also attached to star as Dickens’ children, Nick and Ashley. Adam Davidson (Friday Night Lights, Fringe) directed the pilot episode.

Expect the yet officially titled spin-off zombie series to make it’s debut sometime in 2016.
