We talk a lot about the first scripted drama for the History Channel, and there is a reason.  Michael Hirst’s Vikings is a fantastically well done series centering around Earl Ragnar Lothbrook (Travis Fimmel) and his family.  February, the show returns for it’s 3rd season.

Lothbrook was a real person, as was his wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), and their son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig).  Do a little historical digging, and you’ll find the series just barely scratches the surface of these Nordic characters.

Upcoming Season 3 has Ragnar as King, as well as Lagertha as Earl of her own holdings. With the promise of new land from the English, Ragnar leads his people to an uncertain fate on the shores of Wessex. King Ecbert (Linus Roache) has made many promises and it remains to be seen if he will keep them. But ever the restless wanderer, Ragnar is searching for something more … and he finds it in the mythical city of Paris. Rumored to be impenetrable to outside forces, Ragnar and his band of Norsemen must come together to break down its walls and cement the Vikings legend in history.
