“Tales of the Federation” Star Trek Anthology Series Pitched

Okay, we love this idea. We don’t love Akiva Goldsmith, but this idea is absolutely solid and worth supporting. Imagine a “Star Trek” anthology series, with one-off episode, focusing on characters across the franchise. You could have a spotlight on someone like…oh, say George Takei as Hikaru Kato Sulu?!

Or how about Balok (Clint Howard) from TOS?

While speaking to SFX Magazine, Goldsmith pitched the idea as “Tales of the Federation.” He compared it to what Robert Kirkman and co were doing with the various “The Walking Dead” spinoff series with AMC.

“There’s something that I like, which I think Robert Kirkman is doing right now with The Walking Dead, which is a kind of… I’ll call it Tales Of The Federation, where you would just do one-offs, right? So you could bring George Takei back for an hour, and do a show about Sulu as an older man, or find Jonathan Archer having now retired from his Enterprise and being on Earth, just do these certain really interesting ones.

You could grab anybody, from all the shows, because it’s really hard to find enough for a series, but there are an endless amount of episodes, as anthology series are finding their way back. They were sort of a staple when I was a boy. A Star Trek-based one of those I think would be super fun.”

We agree, super fun, and a great idea. Especially with “Star Trek: Discovery” spinoff series “Brave New Worlds” on the way.

Check out what Paramount+ has coming up in the way of “Star Trek” here. What characters would you want to see get their own episode? We’re thinking anyone from “Deep Space Nine,” honestly.
