Taika Waititi is a character — one we want to see more from for years to come. With things like Flight of the Concords, What We Do in the Shadows, and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok under his belt, we’re pretty excited to see his next feature film Jojo Rabbit.
The premise is strange to be sure: a young boy in Nazi Germany during WWII has a goal of becoming a Hitler Youth. He has an imaginary best friend, Adolf Hitler, who will be played by Waititi. That’s pretty much all we know at this point, minus other members of the cast like Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell.
Taika posted this image earlier today, riffing on Avengers: Infinity War with his comments about Scarlet Witch and Captain Merika:
Can’t believe I get to work with Scarlett Witch from the scavengers movies! Here I am teaching her how to use Captain Merika’s mini biscuit shield to defend herself from a mini nazi attack. #jojorabbit #FiniteWar @jojorabbitmovie pic.twitter.com/bD16VWe1PK

There was also this image posted earlier today, showing Jojo (played by Roman Griffin Davis) having dinner with his imaginary friend Adolf (Waititi), and his mother, Rosie (Johansson):

While no set release date has been released for the film, it’s expected to hit theaters sometime in late 2019-early 2020.
