With Hollywood literally at a standstill with both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, strong feelings from those impacted is to be expected. What we WEREN’T expecting was someone like “Heels” star Stephen Amell‘s recent comments about not supporting the strike.
“I feel like a lot of people in this room aren’t aware of the strike,” he said during a panel at GalaxyCon in Raleigh over the weekend. “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them but I do not support striking. I don’t. I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. I think that the thinking as it pertains to shows — like this show that I’m on that premiered last night — I think it is myopic, and I stand with my union.”
Of course, the internet and fellow union members didn’t take kindly to this opinion. Which in turn caused Amell to attempt to walk back his comments this morning in an Instagram post.
“To ensure there is no misunderstanding about my thoughts and intentions I’m providing what I actually said and clarity/context to ensure my feelings aren’t unintentionally misinterpreted,” Amell wrote. “We all know soundbites can be taken out of context and I have too much respect for my fellow union members to not clarify the record.”
We would like to point out, it wasn’t just a “soundbyte.” It was a video of the entire panel (watch below). You can read his clarification responses in the comments on the post below.
