The third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise hasn’t even finished filming yet, but we already know about the upcoming FOURTH chapter in the JJ Abrams universe.  Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) will be taking over the director’s helm for the 3rd film, and as of today, we have our first image from the set.

It had been reported earlier this year in an interview with New Scotty Simon Pegg that the working title at the time was Star Trek Beyond.  It would appear with Lin’s tweet today that the title has stuck.

Lin recently said the new film will be moving away from the more traditional 1960’s Original Trek motifs and onto something new.

“The Klingons, Romulans and other species are great, but it’s time to go further.  It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species” Lin said.

Star Trek Beyond brings back Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Science Officer Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Doctor “Bones” McCoy, Anton Yelchin as Chekov and John Cho as Sulu.  Idris Elba will be joining the cast in an yet undisclosed role.  The film is set to open on July 8th, 2016.
