[Rumor] ‘The Muppets’ are Coming to Disney+, Josh Gad Involved

Disney moving into streaming services seems like the perfect opportunity to find a permanent home for properties that have struggled with traditional network models, like the most recent two incarnations of The Muppets. We all expected that perhaps the felt-friends were destined to end up on Disney+, and that may yet be the case.

According to The Splash Report (who /Film says are mostly reliable for such sources), a The Muppets show is heading to the House of Mouse streaming service, reportedly with Josh Gad and Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

Splash goes on to say that as far as they can glean, the series will theoretically be called Muppets Live Another Day, and that the show takes place right after the events of The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984). Kermit disbands the gang but they are brought back together after the mysterious disappearance of Rowlf.

We’ll let you know if any of this gets confirmed/denied by Disney, but we think this is a highly likely starting point for bringing Kermit and co back to tv.

Disney+ is set to launch sometime this year, with a first-look coming this April.
