    [Rumor] Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Has $300 Million+ Budget

It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about the other live-action Disney remake coming- Mulan. It makes sense that Disney is currently otherwise focused on the still hot Avengers: Endgame title currently in theaters (number 2 on the all-time box office record currently), their upcoming live-action Aladdin remake, as well as this summer’s Lion King “live-action”.

According to a report from Weibo, which was translated by box office analyst Gavin Feng (thanks to CBR for the tip), actress Gong Li says the budget for the film is upwards of $300 million. This is a staggering amount, considering Avengers: Endgame was in the $350 million range, and had some of the highest paid talent on screen to date for the feature. It’s unclear if this is just a thrown-out number, or if maybe it’s indicative of just how far Disney is willing to go to bring this legend to life.

We know that Liu Yifei (also known as Crystal Liu) will be picking up the sword to play Hua Mulan, daughter and warrior. Disney went on reportedly a worldwide search to find the perfect person to play the feisty and honorable lady, settling on newcomer to American cinema Yifei.

Niki Caro (Whale Rider, Zookeeper’s Wife) is directing the film for Disney. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, Avatar sequels) are penning the script, after being brought onto the team in 2015 to rewrite the existing spec.

Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Yoson An, Xana Tang, Jason Scott Lee, and Ron Yuan are also set to appear in the film.

Mulan is slated to hit theaters on March 27th, 2020.
