Rotten Tomatoes “Glitch” Allowed “Tens of Thousands” to Review, Vote on ‘Captain Marvel’ Early

The Rotten Tomatoes / Captain Marvel drama goes on, and this time it’s the fault of “a glitch”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Ryan Parker, RT reached out to him to say there was a hiccup in their newly-updated system of allowing the public to vote on wanting to see or not wanting to see a film before it’s released.

This “glitch” resulted in thousands of reviews being added early, before the film’s official release.

RT had pledged to make changes to their aggregate site following “review bomb” attempts for films like Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and most recently Captain Marvel. While the Captain Marvel “bombs” were in the vein of people leaving comments rather than outright reviews, the vitriol was enough for the site to want to change things.

We still think a way to scan theater tickets as a way to vouchsafe for someone actually having SEEN the film they’re lambasting in review form would be a great addition to the site, but at least they acknowledged there was an issue to begin with.

Captain Marvel currently sits at 81% of critics liking it, and 35% of audiences hating it. No telling how those numbers will fluctuate during the weekend. Also, it seems like few have noticed Warner Bros. Pictures decision to screen and drop embargo on Shazam on the same day Marvel Studios’ film previewed/soft opened.

Early box office numbers are good, putting Thursday night’s previews at $21 million, making the film 5th place for Marvel Studios previews.
