“Rings of Power” S3 Will Have Massive Time Jump

We have some questions about the “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” news we got this morning. While the information does come directly from the studio behind the impressive series, word of a time jump gives us pause. Obviously there is a lot of history within middle-Earth to cover, some of which we’re likely never to see on screen. But diving directly in the middle of the war between Sauron and the Elves? Just like….first episode, BAM, we’re several years later, and well into the War of the Last Alliance? …okay, that’s a choice.

“Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last,” a post from the show’s official social accounts reads.

There was also a reveal of some of the directors we can expect to see helming episodes in season 3. Charlotte Brändström (“Shōgun‘), Sanaa Hamri (“The Wheel of Time“), and Stefan Schwartz (“The Boys,” “The Walking Dead“).

“The Rings of Power” is currently in pre-production, with filming set to start soon in their new studio home of Shepperton Studios in the UK. (A dramatic move, considering the show, like Sir Peter Jackson‘s two trilogies before it, all filmed in New Zealand.)

No word yet on when we may actually see the finished 3rd season, but we’ll let you know what we hear about that and other news. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
