Paramount Developing “American Girl” Doll Film

Following the billion-dollar success of “Barbie,” why not another film focused on a best-selling Mattel doll? This is where Paramount Pictures comes in, as they are currently developing a project based on the American Girl Dolls line.

“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” director Lindsey Anderson Beer is working on the script for the project, which is being developed by Paramount and Temple Hill.

“Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls. I had Kirsten, and she had Molly,” Beer said. “They didn’t feel like dolls to play with, rather real people whose worlds we got to imagine ourselves in. They are historically accurate toys and accessories that feature elaborate and immersive backstories uniquely suited to bring to screen.”

While popular in the 80s, the dolls did experience a return and relaunch to celebrate the line’s 35th anniversary in 2021. One can easily find collections of the original dolls, including their accompanying story books, on eBay for upwards of $1,200 for the set. So, better start looking through those attic bins.

American Girl is just one of the several toy lines Mattel has currently in the works as some kind of feature film or television series. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
