“Outlander”: New Faces For Season 2

Ok, so, at first I was really excited when the email blast came through about casting for season two of Outlander, because there are characters I cannot WAIT to see on screen.  As far as an adapted from books show goes, Outlander has set the bar incredibly high.  We knew the project was in good hands as Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek) has really done his job right and delighted fans with his vision of Diana Gabaldon’s novels.

Season 1 of STARZ’s historical-science-fiction-romantic-adventure series has just ended, and fans are left wondering what comes next.  Well, not all fans, as book readers KNOW how the second book starts, and where it ends.  I won’t go into any spoilers for this post other than the basic ‘Jamie and Claire go to France’ information, and introducing you to three new characters.  As far as we know, the show will continue with their following of the book’s material to flush out a season, and “Dragonfly In Amber” sure has a lot of things happening to make season 2 amazing.

And to thank u for being the best fans EVER here is a casting treat.A picture of #Bouton! #outlander @Outlander_Starz pic.twitter.com/61naBBbVxt

The first is Bouton.  He is an ailment sniffing dog owned by Mother Hildegard, the nun in charge of the Hospital St Angeles in Paris where Claire will spend time working.  Bouton, while not perhaps the most important of figures, is a fan favorite who we can’t wait to see making his rounds.

So while Jamie and Claire are in France, we meet another of the Fraser clan, Cousin Jared Fraser, who owns a rather profitable wine and spirits import/export business.   Robert Cavanah (The Borgias, Lara Croft: Cradle of Life) is stepping into the role of the this strong Jacobite who will be a strong ally for our two favorites.

Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain

Now nor a not so good character.  Again, I won’t go into details for those of you who haven’t read the books (seriously though, what are you waiting for?) but just be forewarned that Le Comte St. Germain becomes a serious problem later in book two for the Frasers, specifically Claire.  Stanley Weber (Borgia, Not Another Happy Ending) was born in Paris, and we’re looking forward to how delightfully evil he’ll be.

I’m really amused that two of the new faces to Outlander are from other historical dramas.  The Borgias which is the Showtime series starring Jeremy Irons and Holliday Grainger, and Borgia, which is a series produced by German and French production houses that stars John Doman and Mark Ryder.

Outlander returns in 2016 to STARZ.
