“Outlander” Gets 8th and Final Season, Prequel Series Greenlit

STARZ has renewed hit series “Outlander“ for an 8th season, but there’s a bit of sad news. It will be the last for the show, which follows Diana Gabaldon‘s historical fantasy novels. BUT ALSO, some pretty cool news. A prequel series, about the parents of main character Jamie Fraser, has been greenlit.

“Blood of My Blood” will center on Ellen MacKenzie Fraser and Brian Fraser, Jamie’s mom and dad.

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain,” Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer, said. “The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that ‘Outlander’ fans will know and recognize. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the ‘Outlander’ universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans.”

“Outlander” showrunner Roberts will serve as showrunner and executive producer for “Blood of My Blood.” Maril Davis will executive produce, along with “Outlander” series co-creator Ronald D. Moore. No word on if Moore will be writing any episodes for “Blood of My Blood.”

The upcoming 7th season of “Outlander” will actually have a whopping 16 episodes, and will be premiering sometime this summer. We’ll let you know what we hear about “Blood of My Blood.”
