Without too many spoilers, there is a very important character in the Outlander series who makes her appearance in book 2, “Dragonfly in Amber”.

If you don’t want to know who Brianna is, click away now and check out this lovely video for “The Skye Boat Song”.

“The Main Title sequence of Outlander is an adaptation of my favorite Scottish folk tune, ‘The Skye Boat Song,’” composer Bear McCreary said of the now iconic tune. “I’ve always adored this piece, and felt its well-known lyrical connection to the Jacobite Uprising would make it appropriate for this show. I struggled to connect with the more famous lyrics by Sir Harold Boulton, however. Thankfully, vocalist Raya Yarbrough recalled another set of lyrics by Robert Louis Stevenson, which were much better suited to Claire’s story. After we altered a few consonants to change the gender of the speaker, they connected even more directly. This lyric video allows these words to shine as it takes us back in time with Claire on her journey.

Still here?  Ok!  So Brianna is the daughter of Claire and Jamie, born in Claire’s modern day time, raised by Frank, never knowing her true parentage until fate intervenes and a drunk Claire spills the whiskey in the late Reverend Wakefield’s study while chatting with Roger Wakefield and Bri.

Entertainment Weekly is running the exclusive, and newcomer Sophie Skelton has been cast to play Brianna.  Born in Woodford, Cheshire, the actress is a trained singer and dancer who went on to appear in U.K. series like Doctors, DCI Banks, Waterloo Road, andFoyle’s War. She most recently appeared as Gemma Holt in an episode of the BBC drama Casualty, Forsaking All Others, and she’s about to play the title role in Ren, an online fantasy action-adventure series.

Already announced is Richard Rankin, who will be playing Roger Wakefield, who becomes Bri’s love interest in the coming stories.

Award winning (and fan favorite) series Outlander returns to STARZ for it’s second season in April of 2016.
