NBC Uncancels Timeless, Says Writer Eric Kripke

May has turned into a television bloodbath, and one of the earliest NBC casualties was the era hoppin’ Timeless.  The series was for all intent and purposes canceled last week when the network released their orders for the coming seasons, and Timeless wasn’t on the pickup list.

This morning however, series writer Eric Kripke tweeted this:

The #TimeTeam went back 3 days, and changed history. @nbc picked us up for 10 episodes. Seriously. Airs next summer. #TimelessRenewed pic.twitter.com/SDkeShlByL

    — Eric Kripke (@therealKripke) May 13, 2017

Which was followed shortly by a piece on The Hollywood Reporter confirming this cancellation by NBC. The pick up is for 10 episodes, and THR goes on to say:

Season two of the drama will return with 10 new episodes in summer 2018 after producers Sony TV fought hard to keep the show going. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the independent studio had been offering the lion’s share of the profits to NBC in exchange for the renewal as SPT believe in the show’s creative and that it has a solid chance to be a long-running, family-friendly franchise.

This could be a change in the way things are done, and makes me wistful that we may have yet gotten more Constantine had this been an option then.
