Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy has finally commented on the upcoming reboot Ghostbusters 3 film from Sony and writer/director Jason Reitman. This reboot will reportedly NOT include any of the ladies from the 2016 female-fronted Ghostbusters film which McCarthy starred in along with Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.

McCarthy, who was nominated in the leading actress category at last night’s 91st Annual Academy Awards for her role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, spoke with Entertainment Tonight before the ceremony took place. She revealed a conversation she had with Reitman, who just happens to be the son of the original two Ghostbusters film’s director, Ivan Reitman.

“I’m for anybody who’s making movies. I talked to Jason about it, he’s just always had this idea, and his goes back to the world where the guys did exist and I’m like, ‘I want to see that’. I’m all for it. I say like, ‘Tell the story.'”

We’re still hoping Ghostbusters 3 will have some kind of acknowledgment of the ladies from 2016, but we won’t hold our breaths.

SONY has announced a release date of July 11th, 2020 for the film. No word on casting yet, but we’ll of course let you know what we hear.
