Whoops, Man Mansplains Indiana Jones Costumes To The Designer

Social media has been amazing for the level of connection audiences can have with creators.  But also social media has been the worst possible thing for connecting certain audience members with creators.  There isn’t a day that goes by where someone protected by the anonymity of facebook or twitter decides to rip something a part, usually because they “know more” than other people.  This is where fact checking and maybe a quick glance at IMDB before thinking you know more comes in handy.

Sometimes though, this can have amusing results as it does with the example I’m going to share with you now.

Turns out on a recent episode of Jeopardy, there was a final Jeopardy question about the inspiration for a notable action-adventure-archaeologist’s costume.  Namely, the 1954 Charlton Heston film Secret Of The Incas influencing the design of Indiana Jones.

And of course because it’s the internet a guy decides that Jeopardy and their stable of fact checkers are wrong, and says so.

“The Jeopardy question is wrong.  The movie was The Greatest Show On Earth,” he says.

Fortunately for us, the first person to respond to him just happened to be someone in a position to know a little bit about the subject.  Check out the image below:

Recognize the name Deborah Landis? She just happens to be the costume designer for Raiders Of The Lost Ark, the first Indiana Jones film.  Deborah is married to filmmaker John Landis, and designed for pretty much all of John’s films including Animal House, Blues Brothers, American Werewolf In Paris, and Michael Jackson‘s Thriller music video. She is also a two term past president of The Costume Designer’s Guild, Local 892, the union representing working Hollywood costume designers.

*sarcasm* But really, what does she know about this subject?
