Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is once again teasing what’s to come. The MCU has been planned in blocks, with the current saga just getting to the end of Phase 4. Everyone has a theory about what’s next following the current slate of titles.
Feige, while speaking to Total Film, promised answers are coming.
“As we’re nearing the end of Phase Four, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going. I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”
Just as a refresher, the remaining titles in Phase 4 are “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “The Marvels.” There’s also the Disney+ live-action series- “Ms. Marvel,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” “Ironheart,” and “Secret Invasion.” (You could probably count “Loki” and “What If…?” season 2, also, but we’re not sure where they’ll fall story-wise yet.)
Based on characters we’ve met already (and may still encounter) in phase 4, West Coast Avengers/Young Avengers is a likely thing. Not to mention, a promised “Fantastic Four” feature film that can’t seem to get off the ground. (And, you know, that “Deadpool” guy is getting a third movie, too.)
We do know “Blade” is coming, but not which phase it’ll fit into. Current thought is it’ll kick off phase 5. Same with “Thunderbolts.”
Of course, every Marvel fan is hoping for Secret Wars. With X-Men finally returning to the fold, this is entirely possible. Feige himself has teased it previously. An animated series, “X-Men 97,” is on the way, and could serve as an introduction for the characters to the MCU.
Chances are, we’ll know what direction Marvel Studios is headed by SDCC (July) or D23 (September) later this year. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other projects.
