“John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum” [Review]

“That was a pretty good fight, eh John?” This line, uttered by Mark Dacascos following a pretty fantastic and exhausting fight with Keanu Reeves, sums up the third of the John Wick films directed by Chad Stahelski.

If you are a fan of the first two films, then Parabellum is right up your alley with more stunts, fight sequences, and punch counts than we could easily keep count of. We don’t want to give away any details as to the plot because they’re sort of important to the final act of the film.

This is the role Reeves was born to play in many ways- he has the right demeanor, the right talents for such an action-heavy character with a heart-weary force driving him.

Yes, there are dogs in this one, and yes- one does get shot, BUT- it’s okay because he’s in armor and doesn’t actually get hurt as a result.

Oscar winner Halle Berry is wonderful in Parabellum, and makes us almost forgive her turn as a Bond Girl in 2002’s Die Another Day. She is absolutely masterful here as Sophia- a role that cost her 3 broken ribs during training.

We could go on and on about how great she was- seriously, we’d totally watch a Sophia and doggos spinoff (maybe STARZ’s The Continental series?)

SCORE: 4 out of 5, will TOTALLY see again

    THE GOOD:

IT’S JOHN WICK, the stunts and fight sequences OBVIOUSLY are going to be the good here. That said- seeing the nimble Chairman actually DOING what he’s trained for rather than hamming it up for Alton Brown and co was pretty damn awesome. (Yes, we do LOVE Iron Chef, don’t get us wrong.)

    THE BAD:

There are times the various panes of glass suffer from “but do we need it to break NOW?” syndrome. The force needed to break them seems to change as needed for the fight choreography, but this is nitpicking at best.

John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum hits theaters everywhere on May 17th 2019.
