Is “Ace Ventura 3” Actually Happening? Because…

Earlier today, several outlets were quick to jump on a story which claimed a third “Ace Ventura” film was on the way from the team that wrote Sony’s “Sonic The Hedgehog.” The problem? The sourced quote that apparently set off this kerfuffle of reporting isn’t in the article.

To begin, ComicBook shared this article, which claims Morgan Creek, the company behind several beloved comedy films, stated the project was happening in a retrospective piece by Park Circus, which you can read here.

ComicBook, and now Collider, both have published a quote, sourcing it from Park Circus’s article, but the article doesn’t actually contain the quote.

The quote as run by both ComicBook and Collider reads:

“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with ‘Exorcist’ and the ‘Ace Ventura’ franchise – its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third installment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.“

But the actual quote in the Park Circus piece reads:

“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a 3rd instalment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories.

Moving forward, we aim to continue to work with visionary filmmakers (as we have always done) and deliver the type of experiences that audiences love. Nightbreed has garnered the attention of Michael Dougherty, who most recently directed Godzilla vs. Kong, and the gem Stay Tuned, a dark comedy classic from 1992, originally starring John Ritter and Pam Dawber, is being developed for AMC with the Fear the Walking Dead producers at the showrunner helm.
    “

So, maybe, the Park Circus piece was updated?

Needless to say, we’ll let you know what we hear about this and other projects.
