‘Highlander’ Reboot Has a Completed Script, Report Says

It seems like that Highlander reboot almost no one wants is finally moving forward, if a source at Deadline can be believed.

The outlet claims that they “hear” Ryan Condal (Colony) has turned in a script for a immortal reboot to Lionsgate, who has been semi-actively developing the project on and off since 2008. Summit Entertainment held the rights back then, and it sort of fell by the wayside.

This sounds like a lot of fantasy swords in the fire for Condal, who is also developing the Conan the Barbarian series for Amazon Studios.

Deadline goes on to say that the head of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Patrick Wachsberger told them: “We’ve finally got a screenplay we’re happy with. We have set up the story so it has sequel potential.”

JoBlo claims that pre-production is set to start on the project later this year.

Obviously there isn’t much known about this project, other than it being a reboot of the 1986 fantasy film from director Russell Mulcahy. The film and subsequent Highlander TV series was based on a short story by Gregory Widen, who also wrote the screenplay for Backdraft based on his personal experiences as a firefighter.

We’ll let you know if any more information about this Highlander reboot becomes available, and if/when Lionsgate confirms the script completion.
