“Gotham”: Jada Pinkett Smith Leaving Series

If you’ve been watching Gotham from the beginning, chances are you have one of two attitudes towards the character of Fish Mooney.  The (former) club owner-mob henchwoman started near the top of the underworld food chain on the show, but her breathless way of speaking, her almost Halle Berry as Catwoman-esk way of doing things, was finally getting on my last nerve.  Until the most recent set of episodes where she was taken prisoner after her escape from the city’s mob bosses who wanted her dead.

“I’ve always been a comic book fan so it was definitely a dream to be able to participate in an origin story of Batman with an original character,” Smith said in a recent interview. “Who would of thought in a million years that I would have the opportunity to do that?”

TVLine is reporting that Smith is officially leaving the series at the end of this season.  Which probably means we’ll be seeing Fish go out in a blaze of glory, hopefully at the hands of Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

“We’re done, I did my year and I had a good time,” she told Extra, adding that Fish will ‘go out with a bang’. “The show is gonna have an awesome finale.”

What do you guys think?  Did you like the character of Fish, or did she annoy you?

We’ll let you know as more information becomes available.
