Former NFL Star, Actor, Murder Suspect O.J. Simpson Passes Away

There was a time in the 90s where one could not escape the name and visage of Orenthal James Simpson. Better known by his initials, O.J. was a n NFL star, playing for the Buffalo Bills among other teams. He then turned to acting. But it was his legal battles that really captured the nation’s attention.

On June 12th, 1994 Simpson’s wife and friend were murdered. The following day, Simpson became a suspect in the heinous act. On the 17th, the Bronco chase happened, becoming one of the most-watched live police chases ever. He was eventually arrested, and charged with the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The trial that came after is still talked about today, garnering films, tv series, and various discussions. He was eventually acquitted.

Simpson still holds the record for the single-season yards-per-game average at 143.1 from his time with the San Francisco 49ers. He pursued a career in acting, appearing in all three “The Naked Gun” films, as well as numerous other projects.

He did however run afowl of the law in recent years, including being accused of breaking into a home to steal memorabilia. On April 10th, 2024, Simpson passed away.

 “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” Simpson’s family said. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
