One of our favorite power couple wife and husband teams Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan have just signed a deal with Amazon Studios to create new series(eseseses). This is pretty exciting seeing as the pair have said they “can’t wait to dive in to make some batshit crazy television together,” especially since we know exactly what they’re capable of.

Joy and Nolan are the co-creators and showrunners of HBO’s Westworld, and have apparently exited their existing partnership with Warner Bros. Television to head to Amazon with a reported nine-figure deal.

This does NOT mean they’re done with Westworld, which has a third season on the way, but it does make us question whether or not a 4th season is possible, contractually. The couple’s statement on the news semi-touches on that particular question:

“We are incredibly excited to begin this new adventure with Amazon Studios. Jennifer Salke‘s vision for the future of our business is bold and forward-thinking, and she’s assembled a brilliant creative team to execute it. We can’t wait to dive in to make some batshit crazy television together. And we’re thrilled to continue our collaboration with our friends and partners at Warner Bros. and HBO on Westworld, [Amazon’s] The Peripheral and more for seasons to come.”

The Hollywood Reporter does go on to say that sources close to the situation say the couple have no intention of NOT returning to showrun, write, or produce the HBO series if additional seasons of Westworld are ordered.

Needless to say, we’re very excited to see what Joy and Nolan bring to Amazon Studios. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
