Cary Elwes Has PERFECT Comeback for “The Princess Bride” Remake Rumor

Not everything needs a remake, and this is something that maybe execs in Hollywood need to be reminded of. Case in point, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra happened to mention that someone wants to redo the CLASSIC film “The Princess Bride.” Vinciqueera casually dropped this tidbit during a spotlit piece on the legendary Norman Lear, who produced the Rob Reiner-directed 1987 flick.

“We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show,’” Vinciquerra told Variety. “Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo ‘The Princess Bride.’ Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms. Not a month goes by when we don’t have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with Norman.”

We can’t blame folks for wanting to work with Lear, but the very mention of REDO-ing something as special and wonderful as “The Princess Bride” is just….ghoulish.

Cut to Cary Elwes, star of the film, commenting on the story with the most PERFECT line possible:

There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one. https://t.co/5N8Q3P2e5G

    Oh sweet Wesley, thank you.

Also, if you haven’t read “As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride,” written by Elwes, you REALLY, really should. Especially if you are a fan of the film. We suggest picking it up in hardcover, as the photos don’t translate so well to older model kindles.

So here’s hoping the unnamed “very famous people” take fan’s (and, obviously the star’s) reaction to this story seriously, and we don’t end up with yet-another remake that no one asked for.

While home sick in bed, a young boy’s grandfather reads him the story of a farmboy-turned-pirate who encounters numerous obstacles, enemies and allies in his quest to be reunited with his true love.
