“Black Lightning” to End After 4th Season on The CW

We are sorry to share the news that “Black Lightning,” part of the DC Comics’ based Berlanti-verse on The CW will be coming to an end. The silver lining here is that the upcoming 4th season will still air, but as the final season.

This news comes as a surprise, as earlier this week, The CW announced a “Black Lightning” spinoff series starring Jordan Calloway, about his character “Painkiller.” A planted episode, which will launch the character’s spinoff, is coming in the 4th season.

“Black Lightning” executive producer and showrunner Salim Akil will be writing, directing and ep’ing “Painkiller.”

“When we first started the Black Lighting journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre,” Akil said in a statement. “The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities.

Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we’ve been able to create in bringing DC’s first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture.
