“Batgirl” Film Coming from WB, But Without Female Director?

Warner Bros. Pictures announced just a little while ago that their in-limbo stand alone “Batgirl” film is at long last moving forward. Originally a project rumored to be headed by Joss Whedon, this title has been in flux for a decade at least. The last script was penned by Christina Hodson, and today’s news included mentions of directors.

However, neither of those named for the hot seat are women. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Bad Boys For Life“) will reportedly be helming the film.

Considering WB was the first of the major studios to bring in a female director to helm a female superhero film in the modern era with Patty Jenkins and “Wonder Woman,” we’re pretty disappointed by this choice. It’s a step backwards, especially after the popularity and success of “Birds of Prey” from Cathy Yan.

There isn’t a lot more known about “Batgirl” yet, although early reports did indicate this may have started as a possible HBO Max project.

Current favorite fancastings we’ve seen to take on the role of Barbara Gordon include Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Sophia Lillis, Yara Shahidi, and Kiersey Clemons.

Gail Simone seems pretty excited though, and that’s not nuthin.

Now if only we can get @jurneesmollett as Black Canary to train #Batgirl as she did in the comics…

    🙂
