Amy Pascal Says SONY Still Working On Black Cat, Silver Sable Film(s)

Just as a new Marvel Studios Spider-Man film is set to hit theaters in just under a week, some questions have arisen about the future of the SONY owned and produced arachnid titles. Namely, the possibility of that Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat-featured flick.

Our friends over at Screen Rant recently chatted with SONY producer Amy Pascal about the jewel thief, and if/when we might get the Black Cat project.

“I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the “Amazing [Spider-Man]” movie, but she’s kind of that character that we didn’t really turn into the Black Cat yet. I think that’s a really great character”. 

When asked about the current status of the on again off again “Silver And Black” film featuring Black Cat and Silver Sable, Pascal said:

“We’re still working on that. I think we have plans for that”.

Last we heard for sure, the plans for “Silver and Black” had been altered so that each of the female characters would be getting their own solo films instead, but almost nothing has been announced since then.

President of Columbia Pictures Sanford Panitch (who is pretty much the Kevin Fiege of the Sony-owned Marvel properties, which are being called “Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters” aka “SUMC”) had commented last year about the choice to do two films rather than one when speaking with Variety, saying:

“We believe Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film.”

SONY’s Oscar-winning animated feature film “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” is the best-reviewed of the Spider-films, and we can’t wait to see what the studio does with the franchise and Marvel Comics characters next.
