Universal Rebooting “The Scorpion King” with The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions

This is honestly not the reboot we were expecting to get announced this year, but everything is fair game in 2020. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia‘s Seven Bucks Productions is reportedly rebooting “The Mummy” spinoff film “The Scorpion King” that launched Johnson’s acting career back in 2002.

    Johnson said of the news:

“The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation. I wouldn’t have had the career I’m lucky enough to have had it not been for The Scorpion King and I’m thrilled that we at Seven Bucks Productions can help create those same opportunities for other hardworking actors today. I believe Jonathan Herman will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script for our global audience.”

Johnathan Herman, who wrote 2015’s N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” will be tackling the reboot script for Universal.

Do you guys remember the first CGI appearance of the Scorpion King? Because we sure do.

Garcia, the first woman to own a professional sports league, said:

“The original Scorpion King was a crucial catalyst helping to catapult us into the world of film. To be able to now produce the next iteration as part of our Seven Bucks Productions slate is a special, full-circle moment, a testament to what we have been fortunate enough to build for our audience and ultimately a humble reminder of the timeless value of authentic storytelling.”

Don’t get your hopes up for Johnson to appear in this, though, as reportedly the companies are looking for a new face to star.

No word on who’s directing yet, either, but we’ll for sure let you know what we hear about this and other projects.
