“Big Trouble In Little China”: Remake Happening

Just remember what ol Jack Burton says….

What, you don’t know who Jack Burton is?  Well, then you should really acquaint yourself with the CLASSIC John Carpenter film Big Trouble In Little China starring Kurt Russell and James Wong.  Somewhere between brilliant horror and hilarious comedy science fiction camp, the film was originally written to be a straight spaghetti western.  We’re pretty glad they let W.D. Richter (Buckaroo Banzai) rewrite it.

It would appear that 20th Century Fox is going ahead with a long rumored remake, and they may be eyeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the tank top and tall boots. The Rock’s big giant earthquake catastrophe film San Andreas is currently in theaters, and has netted the highest opening for the former wrestler’s solo projects.   In all honesty, he’s pretty much perfect for the Jack Burton character, we know he has a wicked sense of humor, and does well in action films.  The only downside is he may be unavailable due to Warner Brothers contracts and his appearance in the upcoming DC Comics films as Black Adam.

One of our favorite writing teams is set to pen the project, Ashley E. Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class).  This actually makes me tentatively ok with the proposal, even though I wish it were a sequel rather than straight remake.  We can only hope Wong and Russell (hey maybe even Kim Cattrall) will make cameos.

We’ll let you guys know as things progress, and casting officially gets announced.
