Destination Cosplay: Bellechere’s Savage Land Rogue In Hawaii

Earlier today our EIC (Editor-In-Chief) posted her review of the first year of the newest destination convention HawaiiCon.  She even mentioned some of the fantastic guests, one of which being epic-level-cosplayer Bellechere.

New England based Bellechere has been costuming for 12+ years, and continues to be one of the nicest ladies in fandom.  You can follow her projects and travels on her various social media places (tumblr, Twitter, Facebook) which she herself runs.  Needless to say, the chance to photograph such a lovely subject in a location like the Hapuna Prince Beach Resort on Kona side of the Bid Island in Hawaii was a motivating factor for both model and photographer to make “Savage Land Rogue” costumes.

Now, Rogue is a character from the X-Men comics, and Savage Land refers to a lost basin where dinosaurs run free, and all mutant abilities are taken away.  Several members of the X-Team are stranded there, Rogue being one of them.  Over the weekend of DragonCon in Atlanta, long time Marvel artist Mark Brooks did this version of Savage Land Rogue, greatly influencing the photographer’s take on the costume.   Bellechere based hers on the classic Uncanny X-Men #274.

Here are some of the photos from the shoot that took place on the hotel property the day after the convention ended.  The shots of Bellechere are by Mary Anne Butler (our EIC):

The photographer takes a minute to play in the water with her model. The sand, THE SAND.
Rogue out spearfishing, showing that she doesn’t need her powers to be a strong woman!

Strong and statuesque, Rogue is on a mission.

After a day of fighting the waves and rocks, the two Rogues take a dip in the pool. Mostly to wash the sand out. Mostly.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) got her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine as a teenager. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (News Editor), Nerdbot (as Editor-In-Chief), and now [Bad]Influencers, where she is Editor-in-Chief. Over the past 15 years, she’s built a well-known reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band. She also produces award-winning immersive events, including Wasteland Weekend and Neotropolis.
