Daniel Dae Kim is more than just one of our favorite LOST alumni, but he’s that too. It turns out he’s working on a new tv series through is production company 3AD, which has recently gained attention with their ABC breakout series The Good Doctor. Kim is an executive producer on the series, along with developer David Shore.

The new tv series will be based on Gay Hendricks and Tinker Lindsay‘s “First Rule Of Ten” ‘spiritual fiction’ books. The source material first book (which the tv series will be adapted from) focuses on young Buddhist monk Tenzing Norbu. After years spent struggling with the teachings of his Tibetan monastery, he leaves to find his identity in Los Angeles. There, he’s forced to reconcile the differences between the Buddhist teachings he’s grown up with and the new fast-paced lifestyle filled with temptations. His path to self-discovery becomes further complicated when he witnesses a brutal crime and becomes a “dharma detective”, inextricably entwined in the investigation.
“Instead of constantly begging networks and producers for Asian American roles, I just decided it was time to create them for myself…those who are lucky enough to be in a position to help, should. That’s ultimately how we make progress,” Kim said in a recent interview with KORE.
3AD recently signed a two-year first-look deal with ITV Studios America, “ITV Studios America has been making exciting strides in scripted content, and I’m thrilled for 3AD to be partnering with Philippe, Mike and the entire team,” said Daniel Dae Kim. “We’re already hard at work developing projects together and look forward to many successful collaborations in the days to come.”
“3AD is excited to develop First Rule of Ten as our first collaboration with ITV Studios America,” said Kim. “The books tell a beautifully universal story from a uniquely Asian American perspective.”
Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) has partnered with Kim the show, and will be helping develop the series.
No word on if Kim will appear in the series or not.
