“Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost” TV Series Sounds Awesome

If you’ve wanted more Amazons and Themyscira, we have some great news for you! One of the surprise announcements during DC Studios’ “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” press conference was a Wonder Woman prequel series, all about Paradise Island and the Amazons.

The story will actually take place BEFORE Diana’s birth, and give us an idea of how this society came about. Will we see the whole Queen Hippolyta Ares/Mars/Hercules thing? Diana’s brother, Jason? Or maybe even the Golden Age reason the Amazons wear those bracelets? Who knows!

“This is a ‘Game of Thrones‘–type story about Themyscira/Paradise Island, home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman,” DC Studios co-head Peter Safran said. “This involves all of the darkness, drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women.”

While we’ve seen a fair bit of Themyscira and Paradise Island through two Wonder Woman films (and “Justice League“), there’s still a lot to be explored.

We have to assume the “Game of Thrones” reference is for the ‘epic high fantasy with politics’ aspect. And not, you know, the other stuff. Obviously with this being a Wonder Woman prequel, Gal Gadot would more than likely not be appearing. Probably not impossible to see Connie Nelson or Robin Wright as Queen Hippolyta and General Antiope, though.

“It’s an origin story of how this society of women came about,” other DC Studios co-head James Gunn said. “What does it mean? What are their politics like? What are their rules? Who’s in charge? What are the games that they play with each other to get to the top? I think it’s really exciting.”

There was no mention of who is developing, writing, or directing the “Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost” series. We can only hope the room will be packed with the right people. We will of course let you know what we hear about this and other superhero news.
