Earlier today for a brief and peaceful 11 minutes, Donald Trump’s twitter account was blissfully silent. Rumors abounded across the internet as to why the sudden disappearance of the profile happened, and we all waited to see what Twitter would say.
Three hours ago, Twitter released this statement about the outage, stating that the problem stemmed from “human error” on the part of a twitter employee.
Earlier today @realdonaldtrump‘s account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.

This has been expanded upon now two hours after that initial statement, Twitter going into precious little detail about the ‘human error’ portion of Trump’s Twitter going dark:
Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review. https://t.co/mlarOgiaRF

It’s highly unlikely Twitter will name names, but it’s safe to assume someone won’t have to buy themselves another drink for a long time. Silicon Valley editor for The Verge Casey Newton tweeted this after covering the excitement around the account today:
I have a quote from the ex-Twitter employee group I would like to share: “We’re now referring to this individual as ‘the legend’, lol”

Donald Trump has used his “@RealDonaldTrump” account since March 2009. He has tweeted more than 36,000 times and has 41.7 million followers, which surged after his official announcement confirming his plans to run for office.
He still maintains the account even though he also is very active on the POTUS twitter handle, the official account of the office of President Of The United States.
