Russo Brothers Probably Not Announcing Secret Wars at SDCC

If you had The Russo Brothers announcing a possible “Secret Wars” project during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel on your bingo card, we have some bad news for you. While of course surprises are the often times the name of the game during SDCC, this one probably isn’t happening.

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the brothers behind the biggest superhero blockbusters to date, aren’t attending San Diego Comic-Con. This news was revealed during a recent chat in support of their Netflix film, “The Gray Man.” The Russos have long said the one project that would bring them back into the MCU following “Infinity War” and Endgame” is Secret Wars. True, a lot of other things need to happen before the grand gathering of Marvel Comics characters does, it’s not starting anytime soon. At least, according to Joe and Anthony.

“To be clear, there are no conversations,” Joe tells Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “You’re not about to step on stage and announce secret wars,” Horowitz responds. Both Anthony and Joe shake their heads, saying “no.”

“No, we’re not. We haven’t had conversations with those guys about anything they’re up to because we’ve been intensely busy,” Joe continued. “We always answer truthfully when asked, would you work with them? Of course we would, we adore them. ‘What would you like to do?’ Secret Wars, it was our favorite comic.”

What we ARE likely to get this year during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel on Saturday July 23rd is a Fantastic Four update. Other things as well, but, the over-under is a director reveal at the very least. Maybe casting. Also, we know there are some titles in Phase 4 that are due for some updates.
