REPORT: Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series to Film in Scotland

It sounds like one of the locations for Amazon Studios’ upcoming Lord of the Rings tv series might just be in Scotland, at least according to a report from The Daily Record.

    Lord Of The Rings tv

The site says that a 3-month production run will begin in Leith, Edinburgh in the country’s brand-new state of the art studio facility that is set to open at some point this year. This comes with a BIG “if”, because the new studio facility may not be open by the time Amazon needs it.

The Record says plans are for the streaming service giant to begin production in August of this year, if everything is ready, that is.

A source told the outlet that:

“Lord of the Rings producers are hoping to start filming at the new studio from about August to November. A lot of arrangements are already in place. All that remains now is for it to be up and running in time – so the clock is ticking. It’s anticipated production will return for another three months from next March. There could be more after that. It’s a massive contract and a gigantic boost for the studio and for Scotland.”

We were almost thinking, depending on the scale of the series, that maybe Amazon would be utilizing the Outlander production facilities that already exist in Scotland. But this also makes sense.

We’ll let you know if we hear anything more concrete about this news.
