“Pretty In Pink” Returns to Theaters for 40th Anniversary

One of my personal favorite John Hughes-written films is celebrating a big anniversary this year. “Pretty in Pink,” starring leading members of the Brat Pack including Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, and Jon Cryer, is celebrating the big 4-0! Fathom Entertainment is bringing the film back to theaters this February to mark the occasion.

It also stars Harry Dean Stanton (as one of the most supportive parents in a Hughes film), James Spader (as the quintessential asshole), Kate Vernon (“Battlestar Galactica“), and my favorite, Annie Potts (as forever-fashion-goals record store owner Iona).

“For Generation X, ‘Pretty in Pink‘ captured the imaginations and hearts of moviegoers, and that legacy lives on today—forty years later—for movie lovers of all ages” Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer at Fathom Entertainment said. “Fathom is thrilled to return the movie to the big screen, newly remastered by Paramount Pictures from a 4K film transfer supervised by director Howard Deutch.”

This special anniversary release will also include a featurette, “FILMMAKER FOCUS: Director Howard Deutch on Pretty in Pink.” While we’ll probably never see the actual original ending, it’s likely it’ll be mentioned.

You can check for showings near you on Fathom’s website here. The “Pretty in Pink” 40th Anniversary is set to run February 13th-16th, 2026.
