It looks like part of the promise to bring more women into prominent positions in the Marvel cinematic and now televisional (ha, totally invented a new word) world is coming true.  At least for the sophomore season of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.LD.

We know already that Lucy Lawless (Xena, Spartacus) will be joining the second season of the series, as well as supposed extended storylines for Skye and Melinda Mae.  And thanks to The Wrap,  it looks like we’ll be getting some Hayley Atwell screen time, too.  That’s right, Captain America’s one-time girlfriend (who is getting her OWN solo tv series simply titled Agent Carter) will be appearing during the first episode of season 2.  No telling how long her arc will be, or in what context, but color us excited for Marvel ladies.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with “Shadows”, which airs on ABC on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 at 9 p.m. ET.

Agent Carter debuts on ABC in January 2015.
