We’re Getting a “Myst” TV, Film Universe from Village Roadshow

Out of the thousands of video games out there, choosing “Myst” to get a tv and film universe seems….strange. According to The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly, that’s exactly what’s happening, thanks to Village Roadshow.

The original “Myst” creative team of brothers Rand and Robyn Miller will reportedly be on board to develop the tv and film expansions with Village Roadshow, as well as Delve Media’s Isaac Testerman and Yale Rice.

Apparently the Village Roadshow will be “relying on and expand upon the game’s existing mythology to develop a multi-platform universe including film, scripted and unscripted television content.”

Anna, grandmother to main character Atrus, triggered a world-shaping set of events leading to the discovery of the D’ni, a civilization with a unique ability to write books that link to other worlds in the game. It’s unclear if these new projects would follow this or another storyline.

This isn’t the first time talk of a possible film based on the 1993 game “Myst” has happened, but it’s the most recent. Back in 2010, there were rumblings that something was coming, but nothing ever came of it.
