Former Doctor Who Matt Smith is diving right in to the comic book movie world, as he’s reportedly joining Oscar winner Jared Leto in Sony’ upcoming Spider-Man baddie film Morbius.

We’re not sure who Smith is playing yet, but Variety says it’ll be a “major role”.
Leto will play Michael Morbius, Marvel Comics character from the Spider-Man pages who eventually becomes “The Living Vampire”. Morbius was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, but instead became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood. The character was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, and he first appeared in 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #101.
Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is directing the film from a script by Netflix’s Lost In Space creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Back in November, Leto shaved his trademark beard to begin filming for the project.

Morbius has no release date, but we’re expecting to hear an update on that soon.
