After the less-than-awesome news that the previously announced “Marvel’s Ghostrider” series would NOT be moving forward at Hulu, some positive Marvel Television news about “Marvel’s Helstrom” is welcome.

As announced today, Tom Austen (“The Borgias,” “The Royals”) will be playing Daimon Hellstrom, a professor of ethics who moonlights as an exorcist in the series. Sydney Lemmon (“Fear The Walking Dead”) will be playing Satana “Ana” Hellstrom, an auction manager whose real passion is lies in hunting down those who hurt others. The show will follow their complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity—each with their attitude and skills.

Elizabeth Marvel (“Homeland”) will be playing Damion and Ana’s institutionalized mother Victoria Helstrom, who hopes to repair her relationship with her children.

Additional cast includes Robert Wisdom (“Watchmen”) as a guardian of occult knowledge Caretaker, who uses his insights and relationship with Ana “to help keep demonic forces at bay”; June Carryl (“Mindhunter”) as Dr. Louise Hastings, the head psychologist at the hospital monitoring Victoria; Ariana Guerra (“Insatiable”) as Gabriella Rosetti, a woman from the Vatican helping Daimon and Hastings “uncover cases of demonic possession”; and Alain Uy (“The Passage”) as Ana’s business partner and closest friend Chris Yen, who “carries out the bulk of the auction house’s responsibilities and assists Ana with whatever she needs.”

Showrunner (and series Executive Producer) Paul Zbyszewski said of the announcement:

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a cast loaded with this much talent. From the beginning, we knew we’d need a group of actors who were multifaceted, who could play all the chords any great Marvel show promises to play, from dramatic thriller to comedy to action. It’s going to be really fun to watch them work.”

Head of Marvel Television (and also series EP) Jeph Loeb said:

“Marvel Television is thrilled to have such an amazing cast that enriches Paul’s fantastic writing. The ensemble is the perfect way to bring our audience into our Adventure into Fear franchise causing delicious nightmares of what’s to come!”

We’ll let you know what else we hear about this series as more information becomes available.

“Marvel’s Helstrom” is expected to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2020.
