We are so pleased to report that the long-gestating live-action “The Powerpuff Girls” series just officially got a pilot order from The CW!

According to TVLine, the series will follow Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup from Craig McCracken’s Cartoon Network series.

They are reportedly now “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”

Heather Regnier (“Veronica Mars,” “Sleepy Hollow“) and Diablo Cody (“Juno,” “The United States of Tara“) are writing and executive producing the show, which just got a pilot order from The CW.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter (Black Lightning) and David Madden (Runaway Bride) also will serve as executive producers.

We haven’t heard anything yet about casting, but we’ll let you know when we do.
