Director James Gunn is a great person to follow on twitter if you enjoy his films, sense of humor, and appreciate his opinions on several different topics.  So do The Russo Brothers apparently, because according to Gunn this morning, they used his song suggestion in Avengers: Infinity War.

    Guardians

To back up a bit- hopefully you’ve seen both of Gunn’s Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy and it’s sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.  (The latter being very important viewing going into Infinity War, so brush up.) In both MCU entries, music plays a HUGE part of the characters and plot, being almost as well utilized as any soundtrack before it.  He’ll also be doing a third entry at some point, per his own words.

This may be a little spoilery if you haven’t seen the 19th Marvel Studios release yet, but you are probably aware that The Guardians show up during the Thanos-fighting film. I won’t go into details or anything, but there is a song that plays during a scene dissolve and pick up, and you pretty much know right away who’s coming.

Turns out that Gunn suggested three songs to the Russos for the scene, and they agreed with one of the choices, which is what we get in the film.

“Because I keep getting asked this (And I’m sure it will continue for years): Yes, I suggested three songs to the Russo Brothers for the introductory scene for the Guardians in Infinity War and this was the one that worked best for them. And, yes, it’s on the Zune,” Gunn tweeted.

Pretty great to see further examples of the MCU working together.  Avengers: Infinity War is currently in theaters worldwide.
